J.W. Hodge’s journey to becoming a published author is as unique and captivating as the mysteries she crafts. Her love for storytelling began early, fueled by a childhood spent devouring books. While many might know her for the quirky and suspenseful “Never Touch a Dead Body” series, it’s this lifelong immersion in literature that informs her writing, giving her a keen sense of pacing, sharp dialogue, and the ability to create memorable scenes that stay with readers long after they’ve finished the book.
"Writing has been my dream for years. As a child, I would hide under my covers with a flashlight and read. It has been an amazing and arduous journey getting to this place in my life, and I want to thank everyone for their support! I hope you love Sadie, and all the quirky characters as much as I do."
J.W. Hodge
J.W. Hodge is the creative force behind the “Never Touch a Dead Body” mystery series, featuring the unforgettable Mercedes “Sadie” Harrigan, a landlord with a knack for finding trouble, is a character readers can’t help but root for. She’s witty, resourceful, and a little bit unconventional – much like her creator. The series is set against the backdrop of small-town life, with charming (and sometimes spooky) locations adding to the atmosphere. The series currently includes “Never Touch a Dead Body” and the upcoming “Never Nap in a Casket,” with more adventures planned for Sadie and her quirky cohorts.
J.W. Hodge’s writing is deeply influenced by her own remarkable life experiences. Growing up, she spent countless hours playing in her grandmother’s mortuary in Mount Pleasant, Utah. This morbid curiosity, combined with her years of experience as a landlord managing apartment complexes, provides a rich and authentic foundation for her stories. Sadie Harrigan, the protagonist of her series, is in many ways a reflection of J.W. herself – a strong, independent woman with a dry wit and a keen eye for detail. Beyond her personal experiences, J.W. is a dedicated member of the writing community. She belongs to Sisters In Crime and Mystery Writers of America, and she actively participates in two local writing critique groups. Her dedication paid off when she secured a three-book deal.
